The spiritual part of my life is very deep and a part of my every day. I am a devout Christian. Because I am an independent thinker, I am always trying to find the proof for what I believe. Hardly ever do I accept someone’s information at face value. If I believe something I can tell you exactly why. This has formed some beliefs that aren’t widely accepted in the Christian realm. That’s a little background on my typical thought process.
Now, on to the subject at hand. I believe all life is precious. I believe abortion not only kills a life, but creates lasting consequences for the woman. Personally, I have seen these consequences that are both emotional and physical. I won’t get onto this debate. We all have our own opinions on the matter.
Having said that I do believe “the morning after pill”, “plan B”, or whatever you want to call it has nothing to do with abortion. At one point in my schooling I had to learn, in immense detail, the reproductive cycle. This got me really thinking about the subject of abortion that I had up to that point been passionately against.
It can actually take up to 2 days for sperm to reach an egg. Even if it is so lucky that it does, it still has to implant in the uterus before it can become a little human. I didn’t think you wanted all of the technical talk and big words. That’s the gist of it. All the morning after pill does is create an unfavorable environment for that connection all to happen. If a women were to take the morning after pill a few days after sex, she is preventing pregnancy, not getting rid of a fetus.
The recent issue with Hobby Lobby regarding Plan B is merely misguided, uninformed, opinion. Science tells the facts. Such a monumental opinion without the facts. Accepting beliefs and opnions of others without thinking it through is how cults are formed. Somethings are black and white, like murder. Somethings are a little grey and require our critical thinking skills.
While I don’t agree with the decision (and seriously! throwing IUDs into the mix?!), they are their own company. They are responsible for the employees, for paying the bills, etc. What they do with their money is their business. If someone doesn’t agree with a certain opinion, they can find another job or not patron the store. Men and women fight for our country to be free. At the end of the day it is Hobby Lobby’s choice what they do.
